bananotate is the tool you didn't know you can't live without

Who's Behind bananotate?
Hi! I'm Amichai, a software engineer, content creator, and course author. I've spent the past few years designing and building large systems at Microsoft and thousands of hours recording and editing my courses and YouTube videos.
I've always used applications like Figma, Canva, Miro etc' to illustrate concepts, designs or architectures. Even though they are all fantastic tools, they really aren't built for drawing and creating illustrations live. bananotate is aimed to be the ultimate application to annotate, design, and get your ideas across with ease, live, while sharing or recording your screen.
I'm using bananotate extensively throughout my courses and I still have A TON of features I personally really want to add to improve my workflow. I'm confident that bananotate is and will continue to be the most powerful tool for the job, and I can't wait for you to join me on this journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is bananotate?
bananotate is a native macOS app that creates a transparent layer over your entire screen, letting you draw, annotate, and create digital content on top of any application. Think of it as having Canva or Figma floating above everything on your Mac. You can highlight important information, add explanatory text, draw shapes, insert images, zoom up to 5000%, and even take selective screenshots—all without leaving the app you're working in.
How much does bananotate cost?
bananotate uses a simple, one-time purchase model—no subscriptions! The Pro license varies based on how many devices you need (1-5 devices). Your purchase includes all current features plus future updates and improvements. We also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee with no questions asked.
What if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
We offer a straightforward 30-day money-back guarantee. If bananotate Pro doesn't meet your expectations for any reason, just contact us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund—no questions asked.
Can I use my license on different computers?
Yes! Your Pro license gives you access to a license management page where you can easily activate and deactivate devices whenever you need to. Just make sure you stay within your purchased device limit (1-5 devices depending on your license).
What can I do with the free version?
The free version includes powerful core features: essential drawing tools (pen, text, shapes, arrows, and the snipping tool), limited undo/redo (up to 100 operations), selection and basic editing tools, custom keyboard shortcuts, board management, zoom up to 200%, and auto-save functionality. The keyboard shortcuts view (press Shift+/ or click the keyboard icon) shows all available features—unlocked icons are unlimited, while locked icons indicate premium features limited to 4 uses per day in the free version.
What extra benefits do I get with Pro?
The Pro version removes all usage limits, unlocks ultra-precise 5000% zoom (versus 200% in free), provides unlimited undo-redo operations, and includes all current and future premium features. Pro users also get priority support. To see which specific commands have usage limits in the free version, press Shift+/ or click the keyboard icon—features with lock icons are limited in the free version.
How do I see all available keyboard shortcuts?
Press Shift+/ (the '?' key) or click the keyboard icon in the bottom toolbar to view all available commands and their shortcuts. This view also indicates which features have usage limits in the free version (shown with lock icons).
Can I customize the keyboard shortcuts?
Absolutely! bananotate lets you customize every keyboard shortcut to match your personal workflow. You can create a setup that feels natural to you, making the app even faster and more intuitive to use.

Yes, bananotate operates completely on your device. None of your annotations, screenshots, or any other content ever leaves your computer. We don't collect or upload your work to any servers.
How do I activate bananotate when I need it?
By default, press Ctrl+F to instantly bring up bananotate over whatever you're doing. You can also activate it from the menu bar icon. This global hotkey can be customized in the settings.
What's the most important keyboard shortcut to remember?
Just remember '?' (Shift+/). This single shortcut opens the keyboard shortcuts view, showing you all available commands and their current key bindings. From there, you can see and customize everything.
Can I transfer my custom keyboard shortcuts to another Mac?

How do I save images captured with the snipping tool?
You don't need to do anything special—when you use the snipping tool, the captured image is automatically copied to your clipboard. Just paste (Cmd+V) in any application that accepts images, like Messages, Mail, Slack, or design tools.
When I use the color picker, how do I get the color code?
The hex color code is automatically copied to your clipboard as soon as you select a color with the picker. No extra steps needed—just paste it wherever you need the color value.
Does bananotate save my work automatically?
Yes, with the Pro license, every change you make is automatically saved. You can safely close the app at any time and return later to find your work exactly as you left it.
